SIGURJON B. HORNFJORD It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of John Hornfjord, on Saturday, September 25, 1999 at the age of 98 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Gudrun of 64 years; along with his children, daughter Freda (Emile) Psooy and son Harold; grandsons, Greg (Lindsay) and Russ; along with precious great-grandsons, Jack and Erik; sister-in-law Kristjana (Ed) Nutbrown; brother-in-law Eddie Gudmundson and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Bergur and Palina and brother Gauti. John was born in Iceland on December 2, 1900 and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1901, homesteading in the Framnes District near Arborg, Manitoba. During his youth he fished on Lake Winnipeg and farmed. He married Gudrun (Gudmundson) in 1935 and they continued to farm on the homestead until 1987, when they retired to Arborg. We will miss our husband, dad and afis generous, accepting nature and his reserved and gentle demeanour. He leaves to us a legacy of love of music and his musical compositions will long be cherished by his family. Our sincerest thanks are extended to Dr. Anozie, the dedicated and caring nursing staff at the Arborg Hospital, and the homecare workers. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Pastor Otto Christensen will officiate. The service will conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johns memory may be made to the Arborg and Districts Health Centre Foundation or the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church.
