FRANCES SLOTA (nee KLOS) It is with great sadness the family of Frances Slota, widow of Nicholas Slota, announces her passing peacefully in her sleep at the Holy Family Nursing Home on Sunday, September 26, 1999. She leaves to mourn her passing five children, John Slota, Anne (Bill) Early, Mary (Gary) Rebeck, Kathy Slota, and Will (Maxine) Slota. She will also be dearly missed by her 12 grandchildren, Terrance Slota, Debbie Slota, Randy (Julia) Slota, Rick (Monique) Slota, Melody (Colin) Spence, Brent (Bev) Early, Blaine (Rhonda) Early, Lori (David) Lester, Renee (Scott) Fletcher, Nicole Rebeck, Christopher Slota, and Phillip Slota and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother John Klos and sisters, Julia Mozel, Polly Rychliski, Nettie Kochuk, Mary Nimchuk, Annie Mazniuk, Pauline Koffner, Katie Sitarz, as well as two sisters and a brother, who died in infancy. Frances was the youngest child born to Michael and Emilia (Bosy) Klos on September 12, 1914 in Hazel Glen, Manitoba. As a teenager, Frances found employment in Winnipeg as a live-in nanny and had many fond memories of the children under her care. In July, 1938 Frances married Nicholas Slota. They resided in Melrose, Manitoba until 1957, at which time the family moved to North Kildonan. In 1979, Frances suffered from an aneurism and after a brief hospital stay she became a resident of the Holy Family Nursing Home. The staff at Holy Family has always cared for her with patience, dignity and great compassion. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and many volunteers who have been a part of her life there. Although moms life had its difficulties, she minimized her own problems in her concern for others. We will remember her as a cheerful, caring person who loved life, people and especially singing. Right to the end she offered a deep faith and love for God, which she passed on to her family. We will all miss her dearly. Funeral prayers will be held on Wednesday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Avenue, with Father Walter Klimchuk officiating. Her grandchildren will be active and honorary pallbearers. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Birds Hill Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances memory may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, or a charity of ones choice. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
