LUELLA MABEL PENSTON On Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at the Central Park Lodge in Winnipeg, MB, Luella Mabel Penston (nee Halliday), aged 98 years, beloved wife of the late Harold William Penston. Luella leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Beryl (Lyle) Allan, grandchildren, Brenda, Randy (Dianne), Kevin (Rhonda) and daughter Donna (Clare) Bell, grandchildren, Debbie (Pat), Susan (Herman), Norman (Ronda). She also leaves 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Penston is also survived by one sister, Ethyle Montgomery and a number of nieces and nephews. Luella was predeceased by her daughter Doreen on September 28, 1939 and by her husband Harold December 18, 1957. Luella Mabel Penston born in Crystal, ND December 5, 1900, the fifth of nine children to James and Sylvia Halliday. Luella received her schooling in Elm Creek then worked in the family general store. She was married to Harold Penston October 3, 1921 and remained in Elm Creek where together they raised their family and took an active part in the community. She also got much pleasure from her home, her garden and music. She was a member of Elm Creek United Church, the church choir and a life member of the U.C.W. A charter member of the Elm Creek Chapter of the Eastern Star, a member of the Elm Creek Curling Club, bridge club, and book club. Over the years she also provided a home for out of town students and teachers. In September 1967, she moved to Winnipeg where she enjoyed the company of her sisters, Norwood United Church and lawn bowling. Funeral service will be held from the Elm Creek United Church in Elm Creek, MB on Friday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Larstone officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot at Elm Creek. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. The family wishes to express their thanks to the nurses at the Central Park Lodge with a special thanks to Hannah and Nellie for their care of our mother for the past seven years. Many thanks to the ladies from the Sick Visiting Committee of the Eastern Star who were so faithful to visit mother and bring little gifts and flowers. It was greatly appreciated by the family.
