KATHARINA BUCHMANN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Katharina Buchmann at her residence on September 20, 1999 at the age of 80 years. Her parents, sister and brother, in their homeland of Germany, predeceased her. To our knowledge, Katharina is survived by her nieces, Isolde Salzinger, Roswitha Meichinger, and Angelika Schmid (all of Germany) and Astrid Ochoa (of California, USA). Katharina arrived in Canada on March 17, 1952 via the Port of Halifax and then settled in Winnipeg. Her life long friend Anne Cyritz sponsored her to Canada from Germany. Katharinas career in Canada centered on the grain industry. She worked for Pioneer Grain as an accounting clerk from August 1, 1952 to October 4, 1957. From there she spent the next 27 years with the Canadian Wheat Board until her retirement on September 7, 1984. Her dearest friend Anne, as well as close friends Denise Bergeron and Joy Unrau, will sadly missed Katharina. Katharina enjoyed many years at her most beloved site, her trailer located at Twin Beaches (Sunshine Resort) on Lake Manitoba. She made many acquaintances and gained many friends during this time. She loved to read novels, especially biographies, as well as short stories. Through her eyes she saw the beauty of Gods creation in nature. As was her wish, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue at Aubrey Street, Winnipeg, MB on Thursday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, MB.
