KENNETH WALTER VOTH May 15, 1946 - September 30, 1999 Ken Voth much loved husband, father and Pastor, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 15, 1946. He graduated from MBIC and Winkler Bible School, then went on to study at the University of Winnipeg. He completed his degree at Brock University in Urban Studies. Upon moving back to Winnipeg, Ken earned his teaching degree at the University of Manitoba. His love of the west coast drew him back to Vancouver where he lived and worked for several years. It was in Vancouver that Ken met and fell in love with his wife-to-be Claire Keevil. They were married in 1975 and continued to live in the Vancouver area. During this time, Ken discovered the artist within him and began to pursue Fine Arts studies at the University of British Columbia. Ken and Claire subsequently moved to Winnipeg, where they both worked as teachers. Ken taught Art at Daniel MacIntyre High School. Pursuing his dream, he worked as an art instructor in adult education and community arts programs, and continued his Fine Arts studies at the University of Manitoba. In the early 1980s Kens growing love of the craft of pottery led him to open a combined studio, school and gallery and pottery supply company (Prairie Clay Company). Kens artistry culminated in the production of some of the finest pottery in Manitoba and beyond. Not content with leaving works of art behind, he encouraged and taught many developing artists. During this period of time, Ken and Claire also experienced the joy of becoming parents to two lovely daughters, Erin (1979) and Katrina (1982) whom he adored. At Providence College, Ken began work on a Masters degree in counselling. He continued his course work at Carey Hall (UBC) and was ordained a Minister with the Baptist Union of Western Canada. He subsequently served for 10 years as elder and Associate Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Winnipeg. In addition to serving at Trinity, Ken initiated the development of Cornerstone Church in Winkler, and pastored there for two years. Under the auspices of Winnipeg Centre Vineyard Church, he gave oversight to house churches in Steinbach, Portage La Prairie and Brandon. Ken was a gifted artist, pastor, teacher and public speaker, and he loved these roles. He inspired and encouraged countless numbers of people through his love for the Saviour, Jesus Christ and his strong prophetic ability to lead the people of God. Ken is survived by his beloved wife Claire; two beautiful daughters, Erin and Katrina; his father and mother, Walter and Lena Voth; sisters, Judith (Al) Hack and Sharon Voth along with a large extended family who loved him dearly. As well, he is remembered with love by innumerable members of Gods family, the Church in Winnipeg and Southern Manitoba. Kens role as one of the Church Fathers in Winnipeg will complete his spiritual legacy to this community. Paramount in Kens life was his personal relationship and communion with God. He will always be remembered as a man of true faith and love, who spent his life loving others. His reward in heaven will be very great - eternal life and perfect health. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Kens Palliative Care Team: Dr. J. Mulder, nurses Catherine Napier and Shirley Toews and II.C.A., Gerald Hillman, without whose exceptional care, Ken would not have been able to remain at home. A special thank you also to our familys angel of mercy, Aunt Herta Voth. Her untiring and compassionate nursing care will long be remembered. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4 at Portage Avenue Mennonite Church. Interment Chapel Lawn Cemetery. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21) In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Manitoba Cancer Research Foundation.
