J. PAUL MAGER It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing of J. Paul Mager, on October 1, 1999 at the Misericordia Health Centre. Paul, son of Jules and Louise Mager, was born on March 30, 1918 in St. Vital, Manitoba, and was a fourth generation Manitoban. He was particularly proud of his familys contributions to Manitobas history, especially in St. Vital. Paul joined the RCAF in 1940 and served in Saskatchewan and B.C. until 1945. He worked for a time with the CNR and then with the Province of Manitoba Corrections for 38 years. Paul was active in his church and community. Elected to the St. Vital School Board, Paul served as a Trustee and Chairperson over 24 years. He was a long-term member of Christ the King Church (St. Vital) and their Lennox Social Club where he enjoyed wonderful friendships and fulfilled his commitments to his church through many fund-raising and social events. In recent years, Paul was also active with the Red River Seniors Club. Throughout his life, Paul took great pride in gardening, especially growing unusual varieties of vegetables and flowers. Pauls other passions included woodworking, making childrens toys, storytelling and tricks of all kinds. In their retirement, Paul and Angeline travelled extensively in Europe, South and North America. Everywhere that Paul travelled, he had a joke to tell and a Manitoba lapel pin to offer. His loving wife Angeline (nee Poirier) will sadly miss Paul, her husband of 56 years. Pauls passing will be mourned by his children, Pat (Russ) Kirby, Calgary, Alta.; Marlene (John) Oldham, Bracebridge, Ont.; Denis Mager (Susan Macdonald), Winnipeg; Lucille (Garry) Worone, Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela and his eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrea Kirby; Angela, Marnie and James Hilland; Olivia Macdonald-Mager; Allison and Derek Worone. As well, his loss is felt by his surviving brothers, Louis, Edward, Victor (Cecile) and Joseph (Georgina) and by in-laws, Therese (Archie) Voyer, Michael Poirier, John (Flora) Poirier, Philias (Betty) Ritchot and many other friends and relatives. His two sisters, Ernestine Marriner and Juliette Ritchot and brothers, Felix, Emile, Wilfred and Camille predeceased Paul. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Misericordia Health Centre (3 West Wolseley). We also express gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital who cared for Paul through many years of health concerns. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Marys Rd. with Reverend Renato Pasinato presiding.
