Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD A. CUTLER With deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Donald A. Cutler, on Sunday, October 3, 1999 at Victoria General Hospital. His memory will be cherished forever by his loving wife Peggy; daughter Patryce E. Ross; grandson Peter Russell (Tammy) and great-grandson Gabriel. He will also be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. Don was born at Rocanville, Saskatchewan on November 23, 1927, the son of Mary and Ernest Cutler. His father passed away in August 1927 and his mother passed away in April 1997. He was also predeceased by his brother Keith in 1986. Dons early years were spent in Earl Grey and Nipawin, Saskatchewan. Don had a very long and active career in the food and beverage industry. His career began at the Royal Alexandra Hotel in 1945 and for the next 30 years he worked for C.P. Hotels, at the Devils Gap Lodge, Kenora, Algonquin Inn, NB., Palliser Hotel, Calgary and Supervisory Chef for the entire C.P. Hotel system 1965-67. He then accepted the task as General Manager for opening and operating of the Husky Tower in Calgary 1968-72. Next he was transferred to co-ordinate restaurant development in Granville Square, Vancouver in 1973. In 1974 he became co-ordinator of Specialty Restaurants for C.P. Hotels in Toronto. In June 1975 Don left C.P. Hotels to become General Manager of the St. Charles Country Club. Don was a founding member of the Canadian Federation of Chefs de Cuisine, and in 1969 was honoured by being named Canadian Chef of the Year. Don was also one of the founding organizers of the Canadian Team of Chefs sent to the Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt. Don was named National President of the Canadian Restaurant Association in 1976, and that same year was presented with a Winnipeg Citizens award by then Mayor Steven Juba. In 1984 he was National President of the Canadian Society of Club Managers. In 1984 he was selected as Canadian Golf Club Manager of the year by the annual Score Magazine Awards. In 1992 he was honoured with a Life Membership in the Canadian Society of Club Managers - Manitoba Branch. Also in 1992 on the occasion of his retirement he was given an Honourary Life Membership at St. Charles Country Club. During his retirement, Don and Peggy spent many happy summers at their vacation home in Winnipeg Beach. Peggy and Patti wish to thank the staff of the 4th floor, and a particular thank you to the wonderful staff in Intensive Care at Victoria Hospital, Dr. G. Hutfluss, Dr. R. J. Hayward, Dr. Duncan Scurrah, Dr. W. Czarnecki. A private family graveside service will be held. Family and friends may join in a celebration of Dons life on Thursday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Charles Country Club, 100 Country Club Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia Street, Winnipeg, R3E 9Z9 or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, R3T 9Z9.
