GEORGE BETHUNE DONALDSON (FCA) Born June 29, 1914, George died unexpectedly but peacefully at home in West Vancouver on October 2, 1999. Predeceased by his wife Margaret Edith (Bunty) in 1995. George leaves many family and friends including his brother Alan in Toronto and his companion Sharon Gibbs. His three children, Hamish (Dawn), Sandra (Peter) and Ian (Tanya) and five grandchildren were the greatest joys in his life. Lindsay and Ashley Kelly, Jessica and Gowan Lusk and James Ryan Donaldson will dearly miss their Grandpy, his quick wit, wealth of stories and unending love. George lived his life in Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver and touched countless lives and hearts. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was an exemplary student and athlete at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto in the 1930s and winner of awards and holder of many records. He joined (what became) Clarkson, Gordon, (later Ernst and Young) in Toronto as a CA, enlisted June 1942 in the Royal Canadian Navy, qualified as a navigation officer, and rose to the rank of lieutenant, serving with distinction. He was managing partner of Clarksons in Winnipeg, and later (1957) at the Vancouver office, serving both his firm and the profession until his retirement in 1974. He served his community as chairman of Childrens Hospital, on the Board of Shaughnessy Hospital, as a Board member for the Ministry of Health, and countless other volunteer activities. He continued to enjoy life to its fullest for 25 years following his retirement. Le Grand Georges will forever be remembered for his kindness, crosswords, limericks, enthusiasm for life, and his love for those around him. A memorial service and reception will be held Friday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m., service commencing at 2:30 p.m., at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Road, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Childrens Hospital or the charity of your choice. We miss you George. End of message.
