Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAZEL JEAN (SCHOLLAR) WRIGHT Passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary on October 2, 1999 at the age of 77 years. Her spirit resisted leaving this life to the end, but her body weakened after her five-year ordeal with multiple sclerosis. She leaves her darling and devoted husband James (Jim) William Wright of 58 years; her daughter Lorraine M. Wright, son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carol Wright, all of Calgary; and three grandchildren, Doran Wright, Las Vegas, NV, Ryan Wright, Missoula, MT, and Marcy Wright, Lethbridge, AB. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Schollar and brother-in-law Raymond G. Wright of Toronto and two nieces, Sharon Schollar and Pat Schollar Reid of Ottawa. She was predeceased by her brother Jim Aubrey Schollar, 1997 and her parents, Elizabeth Jane Doran Schollar and Herbert Malton Schollar. Hazel was born May 9, 1922 in Charleswood, MB. She spent her childhood years in Winnipeg where she later met Jim. They married in 1941 and began their business adventure working together in their grocery store in Winnipeg; Pinecrest Foods in Calgary; and back to Winnipeg in 1975 to own and operate Assiniboia Downs. Hazel and Jim shared a passion for breeding and racing thoroughbred racehorses. Hazels horses won many awards and honours. In 1998, Hazel and Jim moved back to Calgary once again where she faced her most challenging year with MS. And face it she did with admirable patience, graciousness, and a non-complaining attitude. Hazel had a zest and enthusiasm for life, delighted in the many and varied experiences with her husband and took pride and interest in her children and grandchildrens activities and accomplishments. We would like to thank family members and friends who have walked the journey with Hazel and us these last few years. We are particularly grateful for her team of personal care givers, Mary Jakubowski, Wendy Whittle, Mervis Maxwell, Dorothy Benons, Leslie Raikes, Carol Ann Probert, Ros Stockden and Shirley Rose and Sheri for their compassion, care and support provided over the weeks and months she was entrusted in their care. The staff of the Edgemont Retirement Centre has also provided much needed support and assistance. Sincere appreciation also to Dr. John Van Olm for consistent caring and unending reliability. Now our dear wife, mother and grandmother has crossed the finish line ... and the race was won!!! Funeral services will be held at the CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219-4th St., N.W. (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Queens Park Cemetery.
