Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD SCOTT CUMMINGS 1918 - 1999 Donald Scott Cummings is lovingly remembered. He passed away peacefully at the age of 81, surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory, is his beloved wife of 58 years Anne, his daughter Heather Burkett and her husband Richard and his special granddaughter Gillian. Donald also leaves his sisters Frances Lottin and Mollie Murison, and his brother-in-law Edward Wareham, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Donald was predeceased by his parents James and Elizabeth by the age of 11 and by his siblings James, Isabel and Bessie (Bromley) as well as his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and George Turner. Donald was a gentleman. He was known for his integrity, his love of people, his interest in politics and his thirst for learning. He quietly and often anonymously helped others. He was an avid reader, a historian and had a great love for English literature. Donald was born on the family farm near Neepawa on March 9, 1918 and grew up in that district until he moved to Winnipeg where he graduated from Jon Bjarnason Academy. Later, he studied both accountancy and engineering, becoming a life time member of both the Canadian and American A.S.H.R.A.E. Donald was a member of Westworth United Church for over 40 years, serving as an elder and member of AOTS. He also held executive positions with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and delighted in working with graduate students from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Plant and Soil Science. He retired in 1984 from Western Co-op Fertilizers and enjoyed travelling and visiting with friends and relatives. A celebration of Donalds life will be held on Saturday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Avenue, Winnipeg with Reverend Clark Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Pallbearers will be Glen Cummings, Evan Richardson, Kenner James, Gordon Murison, Terry Wareham, Chad Richardson, Brian Turner and Ross Murison. Friends and relatives may pay their respects between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8 in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donalds memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
