Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILFRED JAMES GILLIS Peacefully, on Thursday, October 7, 1999, surrounded by family and friends at the Deer Lodge Centre, Wilfred James Gillis passed away at the age of 78. Wilf was born on May 16, 1921. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the North Atlantic from 1943 to 1945. On his return from service, he attended St. Pauls College and subsequently, the Manitoba Faculty of Law where he graduated with an LLB. He was first employed by the Federal Government Department of National Defence followed by years practicing law. He is survived by his wife Theresa and their children Paul, Lionel, Maria Bamforth (Murray), Brian (Michelin), Lucille and Robert; his brother Lawrence and sister Margaret (Orin) Osteraas of Willmar, Minnesota; his grandchildren Corey Alberg, Kevin and Janice Bamforth, Donovan and Evelyn Gillis and his great grandchildren Riley and Brandyn. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 11 at Wojciks Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue. Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12 at the Deer Lodge Centre Chapel, 2nd Floor, with a reception to follow. Wilf treasured the assistance and kindness provided by the staff and friends of T7 Deer Lodge Centre. He was affectionately known for his sense of humour and stimulating conversations. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, friends and acquaintances may make memorial donations in memory of Wilfred Gillis to the Deer Lodge Foundation for Geriatrics Inc., 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J OL3.
