WILLIAM URANICK It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the sudden and peaceful passing of William "Happy Bill," Papa" Uranick, at his home in Neepawa on September 25, 1999. Bill was born on a farm in Garland, Manitoba, March 15, 1926, the son of pioneers Mike and Sophie Uranick of Glencairn, Manitoba. Bill was predeceased by his parents; brother George of Perth, Ont.; sister Jean Mountford of Toronto, Ont. Bill is survived by his loving wife Margaret; three sons, Donald (Marilyn), Guelph, Ont., Brian, Barry (Lori) one daughter Andrea (Raymond) Fischer of Plumas; grandchildren, Kyle, Ian, Ryan, Ashley, Nicholas, Felicia, Dustin, Kathleen, Doreen, Cindy and John; six great-grandchildren; one sister Mary Forsyth of Winnipeg and nieces and nephews. Bill attended school at Glencairn and at an early age left for Toronto where he worked at the Good Year Tire and Rubber Company for 30 years, starting as a tire builder, then shift foreman, and finally as a supervisor. While in Toronto he joined the Long Branch Masonic Lodge. Later he affiliated with Neepawa Lodge and when it closed, affiliated with Minnedosa. He served one three-year term on the Neepawa town council. In Toronto he married Margaret Jenkins, and with their three children, moved to Neepawa, leaving behind their oldest son Donald. He left Toronto to build and start up a new business of his own in tires, named Neepawa Tire. He sold that and started a new one in the gasoline business which he called "Happy Bills." He was a great public relations socializer. Everybody enjoyed coming in for a free coffee and to shoot the breeze. He trusted everyone, was a friend to all and generous to a fault. We wouldnt change him for the world, nor would we have it any other way. He had many loves - cooking, baking, gardening. We cannot begin to mention how many people he made borscht, cabbage rolls, stew and apple pies for. He had an optimistic attitude which we feel is the reason he was so content and happy. Always, no matter how serious things looked, he found the sunny side of things - it was a "Glorious Day!" People like Bill are very fortunate. They have found a real treasure. They have found a vocation in life. Even though their work may still be difficult and extremely demanding, it becomes a task freely chosen and done with love. People who give their lives to labours of love go straight to ones hearts. A celebration of Bills life was held on Thursday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Neepawa United Church with Rev. George Cargo officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa. Pallbearers were Norm Dyck, George Willis, Jack Pich, Phil Syntak, Blair Ferguson and Perry Morosky. Ushers were Leonard Pritchard, Howard Alguire and Jim Finlayson. Minnedosa Masonic Lodge Brethren formed a guard of honour. Friends who desire may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Whites Funeral Home, Neepawa were in care of arrangements.
