SUSAN WINTER (nee KLASSEN) After a lengthy illness, the family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother on Thursday, October 7, 1999. Susan was predeceased by her parents and six brothers. Left to mourn are her husband Cornelius; her sons, Neil (Carol) and Ronald (Judy) and five grandchildren, Lindsay, Wendy, Jordan, Matthew and Logan. She is also survived by her four sisters, Anna Wiebe of Kelowna, B.C., Mary Klassen, Katherina (John) Banmann, and Agathe (Rudy) Ras, all of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Susan was born on September 5, 1926 to Katherina (Wiebe) and Frank Klassen in Neuendorf, Ukraine, the tenth of eleven children. In 1942, Susan left home, to work in a factory in Germany. After the war, she was found by her sister, Katherina and later reunited with her parents and settled in Ost Friesland, Germany. Here she was baptized by Aelterster H. Winter in July, 1946. She immigrated to Canada in 1948 with her sisters, Mary and Agathe. She settled in Winnipeg where she met her future husband Cornelius. They married on August 19, 1950 and together raised their two sons. Susan leaves us with many happy memories of our family life and summers spent fishing at the family cottage on Lee River. She will always be remembered for her love of life. Her strength, courage and wonderful sense of humour will be an inspiration to us all. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital, 3rd Floor East Wing for the care and compassion shown to Susan. We would also like to thank the many homecare workers who cared for her over the past several years, and Linda and the staff at the Concordia Day Centre. Special thanks to the many family and friends for their much welcomed visits throughout her illness. Family and friends are welcome to attend a private viewing on Sunday, October 10 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be So He closed His arms around you And said "Come follow Me."
