Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAVINA MARY GIBB Our mother, Lavina Mary Gibb (nee Milne) died in Winnipeg on October 7, 1999 at age 91, after a long and happy life. Mother is survived by her four children: her son James Gibb of Winnipeg and his wife Germaine, her son Don and his wife Darlene of Winnipeg, her daughter Marguerite Longstaff and her husband John of Winnipeg, her son Robert and his wife Sally Ann of Toronto. She is also survived by her brother Ian; by ten grandchildren, Daryl, Carl, Dawna, Arlene; James, Heather and Ian; Holly; Christie and Matthew. By six great-grandchildren, Brett, Rylan, Kiefer; Mikayla, Colton; and Hannah. She was predeceased by the love of her life, James in 1970, and by her brother Alexander in 1994. In 1907 the Milne and Taylor families emigrated to the United States from Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Our mother was born in Flandreau, South Dakota on April 28, 1908. She was the first child of Alexander (Chapman) Milne and Mary Taylor. The Milne family left Flandreau on March 10, 1910 to farm five miles west of Emerson, MB. Mother grew up with two brothers, Ian and Alexander Milne. She had many happy memories of her childhood and elementary school days at the Post Road School. She was very close to her mother, Mary Taylor, who died suddenly at age 63. In 1928, Mother graduated from St. Marys Academy in Winnipeg. She won the gold medal for Proficiency and Conduct. Subsequently she obtained her Teaching Certificate from the Winnipeg Normal School. Mom taught at Shannon School near Morden, Ralph Connor School in the Ashern district and at a school near Thornhill -- teaching a total of nine years before marrying James Gibb on September 17, 1938. They operated a farm in the Rosebank District until Mom retired to Morden in 1973 following Dads untimely death three years earlier. She lived quietly at 228 6th Street until finally moving to The Middlechurch Home in 1997 where she received excellent care. Mothers priority was her family and she took a great deal of pride in our accomplishments. She believed her childrens education would be her most important legacy. Mom will be remembered for her kindness, unselfishness and high intellect. She had a great love of nature, poetry and music. There will be a private service and burial for the extended family followed by a reception for family and friends to celebrate her life. The reception will be held on Tuesday, October 12 at Doyles Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 p.m. DOYLES FUNERAL HOME MORDEN, MANITOBA 822-2045
