Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER DRAPAK It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter Drapak on Sunday, October 10, 1999 at Misericordia Health Centre. Peter was born in his uncle and aunts home at 704 Stella Avenue, Winnipeg on May 25, 1911 to Nicholas Drapak and his wife Annie (Zarowski). He was christened in the original St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on McGregor Street. Following the births of his three sisters, Mary, Helen, and Jean the family enjoyed many happy hours while living on Dufferin Avenue. The family moved to Wellwood, Manitoba where Peters father continued his employment with Canadian Pacific Railway. Upon the promotion of their father to section foreman the Drapak family moved to La Riviere, Manitoba where Peter continued his education, attaining grade 11 standing. During his youth Peter enjoyed sports, especially partaking in hockey, softball and boxing. One sport, which brought great enjoyment to him throughout his life, was watching horse racing at Assiniboia Downs. In 1933 Peter began working for the CPR and held a number of positions, primarily within the CPR Express division. After 43 years of employment Peter retired in 1976. In the late 1940s Peter met Hazel Keith at a dance at Pattersons Barn on Logan and Keewatin. Peter and Hazels love for each other grew and on September 22, 1951 they were married in Holy Trinity Church. Following their honeymoon in New York City they returned to the north-end of Winnipeg where they enjoyed a happy marriage until Hazels passing in September 1981. Peter was an intelligent, well-read individual who enjoyed the company of others. He was a religious person who was compassionate and generous of heart. Peter leaves to mourn his passing his brother-in-law Ken Prout, his nieces and nephews, Annette Chop, Rose Maxwell, Joe Bender, Ken Prout, Lawrence Prout, Kim Byard and their families. In addition, he also leaves his cousins, Andy Drapak and Mary Drapak and their families, and his sister-in-law Vera Lindsay of Vancouver. His wife Hazel, his parents, Nicholas and Annie Drapak and his sisters Mary Bender, Helen McKay, and Jean Prout predeceased him. The family would like to thank the staff at Misericordia Health Centre and Health Sciences Centre for their care and kindness shown to our uncle during his stay in these facilities. A special note of thanks is extended to Al Shastal who visited Peter on a regular basis. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue with a Basilian priest officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund.
