MARTHA WARBURTON On Saturday, October 9, 1999, at the Portage District General Hospital, Martha Warburton of Poplar Point, beloved wife of Bert Warburton, passed away at the age of 80 years. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13, at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Steve Wilson officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow later in the afternoon in the Poplar Point Cemetery. Martha was born on November 11, 1918, the oldest daughter of the late Andy and Lily Hanson at Esmond Siding, Setter, Manitoba, where her father was the section foreman. After completing her high school Martha went to Normal School in Winnipeg to become a teacher and taught for eleven years first at North High Bluff, then West Poplar Point and Elm Creek. On October 22, 1949, Martha married Bert Warburton and moved to the farm just north of Poplar Point that has been her home ever since. Martha was always quietly active in community activities. A talented pianist, she played the organ at Poplar Point United Church faithfully for over thirty years, with her last service being just three weeks ago. Predeceased by her parents and one sister Ruth, she leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Bert; son, Jim and his wife Barbara of Poplar Point; grandson Leonard (Alison), great grandsons Gavin and Conner; chosen granddaughter Wendy McCutheon; daughter Betty and her husband Les Kelly of Poplar Point; grandson Gene (Wendy), great granddaughters, Alyssa, Briana and Brenda; grandson Wayne (Cynthia). Also surviving is one brother Jim Hanson and his wife Pat of St. Catharines, Ontario; one sister Joyce Lavoie of St. Claude and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Poplar Point United Church, Box 47, Poplar Point, Manitoba R0H 0Z0, or to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Avenue E., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba R1N 0K8. The Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, in care of the arrangements.
