Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL (MIKE) ROMANCE May 5, 1916 - October 11, 1999 Peacefully, in his sleep in the early morning hours of Monday, October 11, 1999, Mike Romance, passed away at the Misericordia Health Care Centre at the age of 83 years. Mike was born in Silver, MB to Gregory and Alexandra Romance, the fifth child of a family of two sisters and five brothers. He married Olga Furda on November 23, 1940 and together they resided on the family farm property near the Silver-Arborg area until 1969. Mike lived on the family farm for 53 years and then they moved to Winnipeg. He worked at Gambles and the Northern Hotel until his retirement in 1981. Mike was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and made two memorable trips in 1976 and 1993 to his parents birthplace, the Ukraine. He was a parishioner of the St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mike was predeceased by his parents in September 1964 and April 1977; his oldest sister Julia in October, 1994, brothers, Walter in June, 1990, youngest brother Paul in July, 1993 and Peter in April, 1994. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Olga of 59 years; five children, his oldest son Henry E. (Edee) of Portage la Prairie, daughters, Lillian (Stanley) Zolinski of Arborg, MB, Rose (Eddie) Sorokowski of Winnipeg, Barbara Romance of Portage la Prairie, Debbie Leblanc of Winnipeg; brothers, John of Winnipeg, William of Silver, MB; sister Ann Knysh of Norwalk, Calif. Also left to cherish his memory are his 17 grandchildren, Colleen, Cynthia and Brandon Romance of Winnipeg, Curtis Romance of Medicine Hat, AB, Darrell Zolinski of Kingston, ON, Darcy (Michelle) Zolinski, Candace (Dwain) Ste. Marie, Jeffrey (Maureen) Sorokowski, Wendell (Paula) Sorokowski and Angela Sorokowski, all of Winnipeg, Kevin Skorbohach of Gimli, Sherry Skorbohach of Brandon, Matthew, Joey, Crystal, Melissa and Christopher Leblanc of Winnipeg; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew Zolinski, Andrew and Danielle Ste. Marie, Meagan, Amanda, Ryan and Tyler Sorokowski; 10 nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held on Thursday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. with Rt. Rev. Mitrat Jarowslaw Holowaty officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeffrey, Wendell, Darcy, Curtis, Kevin and Joey. The family wishes to thank the 5th floor nursing staff at the Misericordia Health Care Centre for their kind, pleasant and courteous care to our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
