JOSEPH MALENCHAK It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of their father and grandfather, Joe, peacefully, at his home, on October 12, 1999, at the age of 82. Joe will be greatly missed by his six children, daughters, Jo-Ann (Barry) Daciw and Eileen (Grant) Hamrlik of Winnipeg, Kathy (Jim) Perchalski of Brandon, Myrna (Rod) Zeaton of Moose Jaw, SK, his sons, Joe (Veronica) of Fisher Branch, and Keith (Claudette) of Gillam, MB; and his 13 grandchildren, Corinne, Michael and Kevin Daciw; Jarrod and Karen Malenchak, Lana and Derek Hamrlik, Jason and Kailyn Perchalski, Craig, Alyssa and Kurtis Malenchak, and Jonathon Zeaton. Joe was predeceased by his wife Jean; parents, Adam and Katherine; brothers, Walter and Anthony and sister Mary Holowka. He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Helen (Steve) Tomchuk of Port Huron, Michigan, Jennie (Mike) Boyko of Peachland, BC, and Victoria Tomchuk of Winnipeg, and brothers, Frank (Mina) of Penticton, BC, Edward (Tillie) of Fisher Branch, and Ted (Mary) of Lockport; along with numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Joe was born and raised in Fisher Branch and lived on the family farm for most of his life. He left home at the age of 17 and went to Thunder Bay where he worked in the logging industry and then operated a diner called the Checker Bar. He then moved back to Fisher Branch and worked up in Northern Manitoba and N.W.T. delivering food and supplies to isolated settlements and clearing bush. He met Jean and they married in 1952. Together they farmed and raised their children on the home quarter. During this time, he also helped bulldoze land for farmers in the area and cleared land he had purchased in the Montago River area. He will always be remembered as someone who was always ready to try something new. During the almost 40 years of marriage he had with Jean, they had started to travel a little. They went to Hawaii for their 25th anniversary and smaller trips to visit family, and during their last few years together, they traveled to such places as Venezuela, Mexico, Las Vegas and Palm Springs. The last few winters Joe and Jean had together, they spent down in Panama City Beach, Florida, where they made many friends. Joe took up golfing in his 70s which he enjoyed very much. There are many memories of Grandpa playing soccer, dodge ball, baseball and golf. Grandpa was always there to teach and play cards with the grandchildren, and a few even attended Joes Driving School. He also enjoyed helping with breakfast in the mornings by giving the grandchildren chocolate bars and Peps. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Myrna and Jonathon who stayed by Dads side for so long and to Rod for his support and understanding at this difficult time. A special thank you to Shannon Pyziak for her care and compassion throughout Dads illness and to all the home care workers who helped care for Dad. You suffered much in silence, Your spirit did not bend, You faced your pain with courage, Until the very end. Peace be yours, Dear Dad, Its sweet to breathe your name, As in life we loved you, So in death we do the same. Someday, we know not when, We will meet again. At his request, cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Roman Catholic Church in Fisher Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher Branch Personal Care Home, Box 119, Fisher Branch, MB R0C 0Z0. Fisher Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
