MICHAEL (MICKEY) MAYER Peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 1999 at the Ottawa General Hospital, Mickey, dearly beloved husband of Helen (nee Rieger), passed away at the age of 90 years. Mickey was born in Hungary on September 6, 1909. He immigrated to Winnipeg at a very early age. Mickey was raised and received his education in Winnipeg. He met his wife Helen here and they were married on September 22, 1934. He was employed by Canada Packers for most of his career. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish and was involved in the Imperial Club of St. Alphonsus, St. Josephs Sick Benefit Club and the Knights of Columbus. Besides his dear wife of 65 years, Helen, he will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Janice Leroux (Leon) of Ottawa, Elaine Baxter (Jim) of Pender Harbour, B.C.; sons Anthony of Kelowna and Michael Jr. of Winnipeg; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Dundas of Toronto, Julie and Marion Mayer of Winnipeg; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mickey was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Reichardt, Lee Toth and Caroline Huhn. Prayers will be said on Monday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 19 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe at Brazier. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary guard will be his granddaughter Jodi Green. Pallbearers will be Felicia Reid, Andrea Rae, Jeanine Harper, Michelle Cannell, Leah Arniel, Marcia DeWandel and Leanne Tucker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michaels memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
