GREIG STRANGE Greig Strange died on Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at home in his sleep. He is survived by his mother Ruth, brother Neil and sister Carol, all of Winnipeg. Greig was predeceased in March by his father Don. There are many surviving cousins, from Hamilton to the west coast. Greig lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He was born in 1950 with Bloom Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that restricted his growth and left him as a small adult. Overcoming considerable obstacles, he graduated from R.B. Russell High School and went on to work for Kromar Printing, Pilkington Glass and, for most of his working life, the Winnipeg Convention Centre on the housekeeping staff, where he made many good friends. As a boy, Greig spent his summers at the family cottage at Lake Malachi, Ontario and that had a profound impact on his life. As an adult, he carefully arranged his holidays and banked overtime days so that he could spend as much time as possible there. It was at Malachi that Greig was happiest and where he established many of his most valued friendships. Greig and Neil had Jets season tickets for 10 Years and spent many winter nights at the Winnipeg Arena cheering for Ulf, Anders and Bobby in the WHA, and later Dale and the fledgling NHL team. For a couple of winters, Greig was manager of the Red Army hockey team, a job he loved. Greig will be remembered as friendly to everyone and generous to a fault. His will be missed by all who knew him. Greig had been on dialysis for the last few years of his life and we know that he would like us to thank Dr. Henry and staff in the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit and the staff of the Hemodialysis Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, his home care nurse Donna, as well as those who cared for him on the wards. It was a difficult period for Greig but was made easier by all of you. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday October 15, at 10:00 a.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion Street in St. Boniface. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation at 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. R2H 2A6. P.
