SUSAN BEATRICE JACKSON (nee STEPHENS) Susan Beatrice Jackson (nee Stephens), 59, of Halifax died peacefully at home on October 9, 1999 after a two year battle with breast cancer. Born in Winnipeg, Susan was the daughter of Sydney and Geraldine Stephens. Susan studied at the University of Manitoba (B.Ed.) and the University of Guelph (B.A.). Forever a life-long learner, Susan obtained an M.A. in adult education at Dalhousie University in 1996. Susan lived in Antigonish, Nova Scotia from 1972 - 1980 where she began her active volunteer life. During this period, she became the President of the Nova Scotia Consumers Association. Upon moving to Halifax in 1980 she continued her volunteer work with the Halifax Metro Council, the Adult Literacy Program and the Nova Dance Theatre. Professionally, Susan worked for the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation for ten years and later focused her career on various women and health promotion and research projects through Dalhousie. More recently, Susan was an active member of the Nova Scotia Bosom Buddies Dragon Boat team. Susan was a great friend, mother, grandmother and sister and will be remembered for her tremendous spirit, courage, kindness and generosity. She is survived by two sons in Halifax; James (Kathleen Keating) and Jeremy (Paula Tiller) two sisters, Kate in Winnipeg and Carol (Jim McEachern) in Vancouver and three grandchildren, Danielle, Meaghan and Benjamin. Family and friends will be gathering in Winnipeg on Sunday, October 17 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Mandarin Restaurant on River Avenue for a Celebration of Life following a family burial at St. Johns Cathedral Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
