Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL PATOLA On October 13, 1999 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, it is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of their beloved father and grandpa, Michael Patola, aged 81 years, of Winnipeg, formerly of Ashern. Mike was born on October 12, 1918 in Brandon, MB. In 1925 he moved to Winnipeg and started his education at the Argyle school. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1935 and started his apprenticeship at a movie theatre in the north end of Winnipeg. He married Audrey Drozdowsky on August 13, 1940 and worked at the Winnipeg Pie Shop on Main St. The following year they moved to Mikes mothers farm 10 miles south east of Ashern, formerly known as the old Dawson Farm (Trail), where they farmed. Mike enjoyed playing the violin and had his own orchestra. In 1944 Mike and Audrey moved to Ashern. This is when Mike started running movies for the Wynant Amusements all over the province until 1949. He then started his employment in the Post Office in Ashern and also ran the movie theatre. He retired as Postmaster in October of 1983. He was also a bailiff for the County Court of Winnipeg. In 1986 Mike and Audrey moved to Winnipeg and still commuted to their little house in Ashern. When Mikes vision started to fail he joined the C.N.I.B. in Winnipeg and formed a band, where he picked up the violin again and music became the centre of his life. He enjoyed his summers at Silver Bay and visiting his dear old friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Mike will be sadly missed by his daughter Eileen, son-in-law Allen and granddaughter Andrea; also a sister Annie, a brother-in-law John, and sisters-in-law, Aune, Helen and Kay; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. He was predeceased by his mother Jenny Patola in 1958, and his father Fred Patola in 1963; his son Brian in 1990; two brothers, John and Bill, and very recently by his loving wife Audrey on June 6, 1999. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ashern. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 18 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ashern with Fr. Ernest Kammath officiating. Interment to follow in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Jim Otto, Harvey Kerbrat, Gary Sveistrup, Willie Paulson, Ron Anderson, Reid Anderson and Duncan Geisler. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements by ARNASONS FUNERAL HOME LTD. Ashern - Lundar (204) 768-2072
