JOSEPHINE ELLEN CARPENTER (nee GOKIERT) After a lengthy fight with cancer, our Mother peacefully, with great courage and dignity in the loving embrace of her family, passed away Saturday, October 9, 1999. Josephine was predeceased by her loving husband William. Josephines memory will be cherished by loving sons, Rick and Gordie (Dorthey) daughter Bonnie (Gary) Okopski; grandchildren, Michael (Linda), Laura, Jennifer and Teresa; great-grandchild Levi; and oldest brother John Gokiert, Westloc, Alta. Josephine had a full and active life. Our family was always first in Moms life. Jo-Ellen had many community involvements, Government Inspection during the War, Home and School Board, St. James Library, Manitoba Rehab, H.S.C. She was especially dedicated to Ladies Auxiliary St. James Legion, where she was a volunteer member and received her 25 year service pin. One of her many joys was strawberry picking and searching for wild blueberries in the pine forest of Whitemouth Lake, where she was born. God saw you getting weary, and a cure was not to be. God knew you were suffering and saved you from much more pain. God whispered Come and rest, Peace be Thine, and closed your weary eyes. BELOVED MOTHER You suffered much in silence, Your spirit did not bend, You faced your pain with courage, until the very end. Our hearts still ache with sadness, and secret tears will flow, For what it meant to lose you, no one will ever know. Peace is yours Dear MOM, its sweet to breathe your name. As in life we loved you, so in death we do the same. Graveside service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Resurrection, 4000 Portage Ave., on Monday October 18 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
