JAMES LINDSAY McINTYRE After a lengthy illness, James Lindsay McIntyre passed away on Thursday, October 14, 1999 in the evening at the Pine Falls Hospital. Jim was born August 6, 1918 in Clearwater, Man. to Samuel Henry and Annie May (Campbell) McIntyre. He is predeceased by his parents; brother Ray and sisters, Irene and Margaret. In 1928 Jim and his father moved to the Great Falls area and lived in a winter tent while clearing 160 acres in preparation for the remainder of the family to join them. He attended school in Great Falls and then at the age of 16, began a trucking business with his brother Ray. They worked hauling plywood and gravel throughout the surrounding area. When he was 21, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Airforce and was assigned to the Motor Pool, stationed in eastern Canada. He would have liked to learn to be a pilot, but a medical condition kept him on the ground. So, Dad did the next best thing - he completed his education and gained papers in five different trades. On August 28, 1945 Jim married Arlene Edna (Witt) of Pine Falls, while on a leave from his Fogo Island station. He was discharged from the Airforce later that year and returned to his bride, and they settled in Pine Falls. Jim began work then with Abitbi at that point as a mechanic in the mill, he eventually worked his way up to become the Mechanical Superintendent of the Woods Department. It is from this position that Jim retired in 1977. James Lindsay McIntyre is survived by his wife of 54 years, Arlene; daughters, Darlene Hyworren, Virginia (Jim) Barnett and Shelley (John) OLeary, also his grandchildren, Amanda (Todd) Chidlow, Bryan and Cyndie Barnett, Bridget and Kevin OLeary; his brother Charles (Joan) McIntyre of Vancouver; brother-in-law Art (Leora) Witt of Pine Falls, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all the caregivers at the Pine Falls Health Complex, especially Dr. R. Niemand, for all their patience and support over the past few months. Also, thank you to all those friends and family who came to visit and offered their support. Although Dad did not always acknowledge your presence, we are confident he knew you were there. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Pine Falls United Church on Tuesday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Cindy Terry officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined, with donations made instead to either the Pine Falls Health Complex, Health Care Foundation or to Pine Falls United Church. DAD: You will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed. Sobering Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. Toll free 1-877-776-2220.
