GERTRUDE MARY YOUNG Gertrude Mary Young of Newdale passed away October 12, 1999 in the Minnedosa & District Personal Care Home in her 98th year. Born and raised at Newdale, Mother married Joseph Lavery Young on March 29, 1922 and together they farmed at Newdale until 1968 when they retired to the town of Newdale. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in September, 1975. She was the last surviving member of the children of Edward and Elizabeth Wallace, who predeceased her many years ago. Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Young of Selkirk, Dorothy Lawrence of Minnedosa; grandchildren, Judy Geekie (Jim) of Strathclair, Douglas Lawrence (Diane) of Newdale; and great-grandchildren, Erin Geekie and John and Heather Lawrence. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service conducted by Pastor Elgin Hall of Minnedosa will be held at the Newdale Municipal Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, with a reception following at Harrison House for fellowship and celebration of Mothers life.
