LAURA HELEN SKRUMEDA (nee Barthelette) It is with great sadness that the family of Laura Helen Skrumeda announce her passing on October 15, 1999 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her children, Mitchell, Gail, Greg, Liz, Rick, George and Nick and their spouses. As well as her 14 grandchildren whom she was very proud of, T.J., Jeff, Courtney, Sarah, Mikki, Melissa, Kristen, Kyren, Quynn, Lucas, Jayna, Hailey, Zac and Georgi-Ana. She also leaves behind brothers, sisters and numerous nieces and nephews to remember her. Laura was predeceased by her husband George (December 5, 1998). Laura was born on September 6, 1935 and raised in Marchand, MB. She and dad married and moved to Winnipeg and raised their family. Mom had a positive attitude, strength and humour to endure what ever life seemed to throw her way, from taking care of dad in his ill health to her own battle with breast cancer to her stroke. She was a caring and loving person, who would do what was asked of her, from chaperone of recreation dances to baking cookies for bake sales. Moms greatest joys before her stroke was taking care of her grandchildren, cooking, baking and playing BINGO. Laura will be sadly missed by the new friends she has made at Kildonan Personal Care Home and we would like to thank the staff for the care and especially Norma, Jack, Shelly, Kim and Sarah. Prayers will be said on Tuesday evening, October 19 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Luxton Avenue. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. You suffered much in silence Your spirit did not bend You faced your pain with courage, until the very end. Our hearts still ache with sadness, and secret tears will flow, For what it means to lose you, no one will ever know. Peace is yours Dear Mom, its sweet to breathe your name. As is life we loved you, so in death we do the same. Rest in peace mom, nana and baba. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
