LENA KOWALCHUK Peacefully, on Sunday, October 17, 1999 at the Tache Centre, Lena Kowalchuk passed away at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Ted and Anna Kowalchuk; sister Jessie Bateman and sister Mary Squires. Lena leaves to mourn her brother Stan Kowal; nephews, John (Charlene) Kowal; Michael (Janet) Kowal; Richard (Elsie) Squires; niece Linda (Terry) McNaughton. Lena grew up in Winnipeg and attended Norquay, William Whyte Schools and St. Johns High School. Shortly after high school, Lena became ill and eventually resided at Tache Centre at 185 Despins Street. Her favourite pastime was knitting and sewing. During her stay at the Tache Centre, Lena made many friends, especially with the staff. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff for their compassion and care over the years and a special thank you to the ladies who provided the pastoral care. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Fr. Greg Mulligan, OFM, Cap. officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lenas memory may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 9Z9 or a charity of your choice.
