ALEX RETKWA Passed away on Monday, October 18, 1999, quietly after a short illness at the Willet Hospital, Paris, in his 90th year. Predeceased by wife Stella, 1987; children, Lucy and twins, Mary Anne and Daniel. He will be sadly missed by children, Doris and Mike Abram, Diane and Ed Martyniuk, Don and Wendy Retkwa, all of Brantford; Dido to Becky and Larry Douglas, London, Shari and George Blahitka and Megan Retkwa, Brantford; great-grandfather to Christian Douglas. Also survived by Retkwa family in New Jersey, British Columbia, Winnipeg, MB, Edmonton, AB, Montreal and Ukraine. Born in Kizlyiw, Ukraine in 1910, Alex came to Canada in 1928, where he lived and farmed in Stonewall, MB until moving to Hamilton, ON in 1945. In 1947 Alex moved to Brantford and farmed until 1966. After retiring from Cockshutt/White Farm Equipment in 1971, Alex worked for York farms until he retired at age 71. Alex has been a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. John, Terrace Hill St., since 1947. Family will receive friends at THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 96 West St., Brantford, on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Panachyda Thursday at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. John, 100 Terrace Hill St. on Friday, October 22 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant, Fr. Zenovy Didukh. Interment St. Josephs Cemetery. Donations to your favourite charity would be greatly appreciated. Alex will be sadly missed by family and friends. Dad you were an inspiration and a tower of strength to us. You taught us to love each other and all of mankind, to be humble and tolerant and to stand on our own two feet.
