BIRDIE M. SMITH Peacefully on Monday, October 18, 1999 Miss Birdie Margareiute Smith passed away at Vista Park Lodge. Miss Smith was born May 9, 1907 in Greenridge, Manitoba, the daughter of James and Emma Smith. Predeceased by her older brother Maxwell and younger brother Arthur, she is survived by her sister Kathleen Johnson of Beeton, Ontario; sister-in-law Gunda Smith of Emerson, Manitoba and fondly remembered by numerous Smith and Johnson nieces and nephews across Canada. Birdie spent her early years and received her education in Greenridge and Crystal City. She began her working career in Winnipeg and in 1941 took a position with the Manitoba Sanitarium Board at Ninette. In 1952 she moved to Pine Falls, to work for the Abitibi Paper Company. Upon her retirement in 1972, she chose Norwood for her residence where she became an active member of the Norwood United Church. During her retirement she travelled to the United Kingdom and made numerous trips across Canada to visit her many friends and relatives. In 1987 she became a resident of Vista Park Lodge in St. Vital where she resided until her passing. Birdie was a dignified, private person with a quiet sense of humour and a friend to all. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
