ORLANDO MARTINS DA SILVA 1944 - 1999 Peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 19, 1999, Orlando Da Silva passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 55 years. He leaves to mourn his wife, Aldegundes (Alda) Da Silva; two daughters, Natalie Silva and Paula Da Silva (predeceased by parents Pedro Alexandre Da Silva and Lucinda Coelho Martins) sister Leonia and brother-in-law Americo Sebastiao; nephew Jean Cesar and niece Anabela; brother Jose Pedro; mother-in-law Catarina Coelho Rodrigues (predeceased by father-in-law Antonio Cabrita) sister-in-law Odete and husband Eziquel; nephew Nelson and niece Jessica. As well as many other relatives in Canada, France and Portugal. Orlando was born in Algarve, Portugal, but emigrated to Canada in 1974. He was a hard working husband and father dedicated to his family. He never lost his passion for his homeland and visited Portugal regularly. Orlando struggled courageously with cancer for the past eleven months. He underwent surgery and with dignity and perseverance continued with chemo and radiation treatments. Sadly, he lost his battle and will be deeply missed by family and friends. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, Our hearts were almost broken, You fought so hard to stay, God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So he closed his arms around you, And whispered, "Come to me." When we saw you sleeping So peacefully, free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. So treasure him Lord in your garden of rest For here on earth, he was the very best. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Orlandos memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Wpg., R3C 2B7. We would like to thank all of the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for all their kindness and support. Prayers will be said on Friday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment will take place in Sao Bartolomeu de Messines, Algarve (Portugal). Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
