VIOLET GIELZECKI Peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer, Violet Gielzecki passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. Vi was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Belle Norton and four brothers. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 40 years, Joe; brother John Norton; brother-in-law Frank Gielzecki; sister-in-law Jean Gielzecki; and her nieces and nephews, Gail Janke, Bryan Norton, Susan Dagg, Ken Norton, Glen Norton, Lloyd Norton, Muriel Saign, Kathy Micholvitch, Cheryl Barnecki, Barry Norton and Fern. Vi was born February 26, 1921 in Starbuck, MB. She studied Psychiatric Nursing and the Selkirk Mental Health Facility and was a supervisor for a number of years. In her later years, she was employed with CPP at the inauguration of the CPP until 1980 when she retired. Vi and Joe lived in St. Boniface and Garson for the past 40 years. Vi enjoyed visits to the different casinos around the world. Vi also enjoyed gardening, entertaining, cooking, her dogs and her home in Garson. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Clinic, Olive Street and the nurses and medical staff of the St. Boniface Hospital, 6th floor and Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 9Z9. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, October 22 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
