KATIE BANNISH On Tuesday, October 19, 1999 our beloved Aunt Katie passed away at the age of 101 at the Riverview Health Centre which was her home for the past three years. Prior to that she was a lifelong resident of Selkirk and area. Katie was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings; brothers, Peter, Stanley, Joseph, Alex, John and one brother in infancy; sisters, Pearl and Caroline. She was born in Narol, Poland September 8, 1898 to John Carol Bannish and Theresa Bannish (nee Phednovek). In 1904 she came with her parents and six siblings to Canada, first to East Selkirk and later settling on a farm in Cloverdale. She remained on the farm with her mother and brothers, John and Alex until the late 1940s when she moved to Selkirk. She was later joined by her mother and brothers in 1958. She found employment at the Selkirk Mental Hospital where she worked many years. She then worked at the Selkirk General Hospital where she was known for her punctuality and dedication, until her retirement. Katie was a loving, caring person. Others needs always came before her own, she shared what little she had with everyone and did her best in all she did. She loved us all dearly, prayed for us and did whatever she could to make life happier. She was a wonderful caregiver. Although she never married she was mother to all of us, particularly Marge. She and her mother and her brothers, Alex and John raised her from a year and a half. She was always interested in how her nieces and nephews were doing. She had nieces and nephews everywhere, east and west and she always treasured visits from any and all of them. She was a Nanny for her niece Helens children for a few years and cared for Patrick, Kenny and Debbie. She was known to say "You know that Kenny is the cutest little rascal, but hes so full of mischief." Today Kenny and Patrick honour her as pallbearers. She was Nanny and housekeeper for the Debrus family (Pony Corral) subsequently for some years. Auntie was a good Christian woman and her day always started with a prayer and ended the same. She will always be remembered by all but particularly by Marge whom she raised. We are very grateful to everyone who in any helped Auntie: Home Care in Selkirk; the Ladies of the C.W.L. of Notre Dame parish; the caring staff of Riverview Health Centre; and the many we dont even know about. She was much loved. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN GOD BLESS YOU ABUNDANTLY Till we meet again - We love you Auntie Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk with Father Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.
