MICHALINA STOROSCHUK On October 21, 1999, with her family at her side, Michalina Storoschuk of Selkirk and formerly of Vita passed away at Red River Place Personal Care Home in Selkirk at the age of 88 years. Prayers will be held at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach on Sunday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Stuartburn on Monday, October 25 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Parish Cemetery. Michalina was born in the Kitsman District, Chemewtsi Province, Ukraine on September 15, 1911. At age one and one half she arrived with her family in the Vita area, where she grew up, attended school, worked and then married, farmed and raised her children in the Gardenton area. In addition to her hard work, Michalina found time to share her joy for songs and music, flowers, handicrafts and good cooking. She shared and recorded as much family history as she could to preserve family memories. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren always had a special place in her heart. Little children always brought a smile to her face. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Wasyl in 1991; her parents, John and Josephine Yanitski; a brother and sister in infancy; sisters, Emily, Nellie, Valerie and brothers, John and Walter. Michalina is survived by her children, Walter (Elizabeth), Michael (Katherine), and Peter; five grandchildren, Greg (Sandra), Karen, David (Linda), Richard (Jennifer), Jo-Ann (Lonny) eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Julia Wolfe, Helen Nagy, Mary (Joe) Zajacz; two brothers-in-law, Steve Storoschuk, John Wolanski; one sister-in-law Stelle Bogoglowski and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Red River Place, Selkirk for the care given to Mom during her stay. The Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach 1-888-454-1030 is in care of arrangements.
