RAYMOND MARTIN Ray Martin, 67, passed away quietly Friday, October 22, 1999, at St. Boniface General Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer and diabetes. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet Patricia (nee Miron) children Reid Arthur (Sue) Martin and granddaughter Nicole from Trenton, Ontario; Jason Michael (Katalin) Martin and grandsons Eddie Ray and Alexander; daughter Lauren (Sean) Rauch of Winnipeg; sisters Isobel (Bud) Mooney of Winnipeg and Eileen (Gordon) Harris of Paoli, Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews; good friends Bill and Joanne McGillivray, Greg and Jan Bizruchak and cousins Patrice and Anne Letain of Dauphin. Ray was born in Winnipeg on November 14, 1931 and resided and attended schools in the West End. He attended Tec Voc where he took a Graphic Arts course following which he was employed by the Winnipeg Tribune Ad Department and later by Macleods Advertising Department. In intervening years he worked at the Manitoba Sport Federation and later formed his own business, Romart Enterprises, designing and selling specialty items. He later worked for various printing, silk screening and Ad Specialty companies and was a part time volunteer for the Manitoba Amateur Boxing Association since 1991. Always an avid sports enthusiast, Ray participated in many sports, both as a player and a spectator. He encouraged his children in their participation in sports and activities and was very proud of their efforts. Ray served his community in many ways - he looked after billeting of athletes for major Indoor Track Meets for many years. He was chairman of the reception committee during the 1967 Pan American Games and regretted not being able to help with the 1999 Pan Am Games. Ray was a highly regarded national level boxing official and due to his many efforts for boxing was designated as an Honourary Life Member of the Canadian Boxing Association (one of only eight ever given) and also of the Manitoba Amateur Boxing Association. Another proud event for Ray was being nominated as Volunteer of the Year a few years ago. He very much enjoyed meeting some truly wonderful people. Ray was a talented watercolour artist. Many fine examples of his work are evident in his home and in the homes of friends and relatives and his Christmas cards were treasured by all who received them. Memorial Funeral services will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m., Father Ray Baudry officiating. The service will terminate at the church. Special thanks to the nurses from VON, especially Ann Edinger, Hospice and Palliative Care for their invaluable support, the Palliative Care staff, and the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic, St. Boniface Hospital.
