Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER EDWIN MATTHEWS Suddenly on October 22, 1999 Walter Matthews passed away at home at the age of 57. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Edna Matthews (nee Rutherford) of Holland, MB. He is sadly missed by his loving wife Shirley (nee Richmond) sons, Kevin (Allison) in Winnipeg and Steven (Julie) in Ottawa; sister Irene and her husband Bill Nattrass of Roblin, MB. Walter will be missed also by brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Mary Richmond, Lillian and Walter Van de Walle, Elaine and Allan Van Damme and Wayne and Marg Richmond; and mother-in-law Doreen Richmond. He is also survived by many aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter was born on April 25, 1942 in Holland, MB. Upon graduating high school, he began his career with the Royal Bank of Canada in Glenboro. Thirty-five fulfilling and dedicated years followed at many positions in Manitoba and Ontario until he retired in 1995 in Winnipeg. Throughout his years with the bank, he enjoyed working with many colleagues who became lifelong friends. Walter loved the outdoors. As a young man he enjoyed summers working on the farm and duck hunting. Later he treasured time spent camping and fishing with family and friends. In more recent years he golfed in summer at Teulon Golf and Country Club and curled in winter at Assiniboia Memorial Curling club, forming many more lasting friendships. Walter will be remembered for his craftsmanship, humour and sense of community. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. The family is grateful for donations made in Walters memory to a charity of your choice.
