ALEXANDER DUMKA With great sadness our family announces the peaceful passing of Alexander Dumka on October 24, 1999 at Seven Oaks Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Jean; his son, Larry (Leah) their children, Lindsay, Allison and Jennifer of Chandler, Arizona; his daughter, Audrey (Randy) Chernetsky, their children, Jenna and Vanessa of Winnipeg. He is survived by his sisters, Josie and Anne; brother Sam, numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his infant son Ronnie; his parents Andres and Annie; brothers, Mike, Peter and John and sisters, Mary, Rosie and Kate. Alex was born December 15, 1919 in Walkleyburg, Man., where he grew up and attended school. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas (1942-1946). He was seriously wounded and survived. Upon his return, he farmed the Dumka homestead. In 1948, he was married and raised a family. In 1963 the family moved to Selkirk where he made many friends. He was a dedicated employee of the Manitoba Rolling Mills for 24 years until his retirement in 1983. He was an active member of the Holy Eucharist Parish and Gordon Howard Seniors Centre. Alex will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his generosity to others, his patience and strong will. Dad appreciated all the help and visits he received from family members and friends. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Hechtenthal and Dr. Lezack for their dedication and compassionate care. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, October 27 (tonight) at 8:15 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, Man. Rev. Harry Oliynek will celebrate the Divine Liturgy on Thursday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Parish Selkirk, Man. Interment will follow in East Selkirk cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Zook, Gord Christiaens, Greg Saluk, Brian and David Zdrill, and Terry Boyko. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay, You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting, Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered, Come to Me. So when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. You didnt deserve what you went through, So He took you home to rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
