Percy was born on the family farm at Valley Stream (near Gladstone), Manitoba. Percy was the son of David and Annie McGowan brother to Melvin, Howard and Marjorie (Wally) Jones. He served his country from 1940-1945 fighting in Italy and Europe. He was in the Provost Corps and later served in the Royal Canadian Artillery. Upon returning from the war, he worked in construction at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba. Moving to Regina, he continued in the construction trade, operating excavating equipment. He was later employed in the Regina schools as caretaker for the remainder of his working years. Retired from the school, he found that he missed the people contact and he pursued a career as a commissionaire at the RCMP Museum and other public buildings throughout Regina. He enjoyed this very much in his semi-retirement years. Percy was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Regina Branch. Percy met and married Ruth Harlton of Regina and for over 35 years they shared lifes journey. Ruth passed away in 1994. Percy followed CFL closely as well as other sports such as hockey and baseball. He enjoyed his garden, reading the daily newspaper and having coffee at the Malls. He liked to travel and Percy and Ruth were fortunate to see New Zealand and Hawaii. He was a quiet and kind man and of an independent nature. He will be missed sadly by his sister and many nephews and nieces. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be held Thursday, November 4 at Stony Beach Cemetery.
