BJORN BJORNSON (BARNEY, BJOSSI) 1922 - 1999 On Monday, November 1, 1999 at the Health Sciences Centre, dearly beloved husband of Virginia and dearest father of Julianna and Valdine, passed away at the age of 77 years. His memory will also be lovingly cherished by his sisters, Gudrun, Roni Chapman, Alice (Bob) Arthur, Norma (Lawrence) Kirby, Geraldine Gerri (Harold) Finnson; brother Harold (Margery) sisters-in-law, Georgina Pinette, Marie (Ed) Brandt, Eloise (Larry) Auch; brother-in-law Ken (Betty) Schmidtke and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Gudjon and Juliana; brother Asvaldur Valdi; parents-in-law Eduard and Juliana Schmidtke; brothers-in-law, James Jim Chapman and Marcel Pinette. Barney was a devoted and loving husband and father and was always concerned with his familys well-being. We will miss his loving support and gentle nature. Barney was born in Framnes, MB on January 29, 1922. His lifetime work was farming in the Riverton area, which he began with his father at a very young age. He continued with a large grain and grass seed farm operation until his retirement in April 1999. The farm specialized in growing Pedigreed seed from select to certified cereals, forage and oil seeds and received numerous national and provincial awards. The business pioneered the production of Birdsfoot Trefoil in Canada gaining the reputation in the industry of having the highest quality seed and expertise in the field. His knowledge and expertise was willingly shared with other farmers. In the off-season, Barney worked at logging and lumbering on Black Island and around Lake Winnipeg and the business seed cleaning plant. Barney both loved and respected the land on which he worked with great dedication. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St. with Pastor Tim Graff officiating. Viewing one hour prior to service. Interment to follow at St. Vital Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Garry Pinette, Brad Arthur, Glen Finnson, Dwayne Auch, Mark Schmidtke and Brock Schmidtke. Flowers are gratefully declined.
