DANIEL GENYK On November 2, 1999 with his family by his side, Daniel Genyk, age 77 years, beloved husband of Edna Mae passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Louise Kernatz (Leon Pewarchuk), Donna-Mae Burgener (Ed Burgener), Gloria Jean Pitts (Edwin Pitts) and Susan Kernatz (Blaine Massie) grandchildren, Colin, Jeff, James, Kristen, Darren, Adam, Jeremiah, Erica and Andrew and special nieces, Pat Choma (Don Choma) and their daughters, Michelle and Sabrina. Daniel is also survived by sisters, Anne Hamrlik and Pauline Andrieshyn and brother-in-law Roy Dack and his wife Irene as well as many nieces and nephews. Daniel was predeceased by his brothers, Bill, Nick and Mike. The family sends special thanks to the SICU medical and nursing staff of St. Boniface Hospital and to Louise Pelletier for her care and compassion to Dan and the family. The family also wishes to thank his best friend George Boivin and his wife Leita for their many kindnesses over the years. Dan was born on the family homestead in 1922 in Fisher Branch, MB. He farmed as a young man and his outgoing personality led him to a career in the hotel and hospitality business. He owned the Clarendon Hotel in Estevan, SK, then the C.N. Hotel in Rainy River, ON. On moving to Winnipeg he worked for the Niakwa Travelodge and Westbrook Inn. Dans interests were garage sales, gardening, cooking, fishing and being a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch 141 and the Senior Achievers Club on McGregor St. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made in Dans memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., R3B 2H8 or The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., R3C 9Z9 or to a charity of your choice.
