THOMAS HUBERT (BERT) MASSEY With great sadness our family announces the passing, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, of Bert Massey, aged 68 years, of Selkirk, beloved husband of Peggy, with his loving family at his side. Bert was born on December 25, 1930 and was a lifelong resident of Selkirk. His passion was farming and he loved the outdoors, as well as curling and playing baseball with the Frontiersmen. His great sense of humour and infectious laugh touched the lives of all who knew and loved him. Bert retired from M.T.S. in 1992 after 27 years of service and where he made many good friends. Bert was a loving husband and father and his grandchildren gave him great joy. He will always be remembered and will live in our hearts forever. He leaves surviving his beloved wife of 34 years, Peggy; daughter Leah Dow (Gregg), son Greg Massey (Cheryl) grandchildren, Benjamin and Kyle Dow and Bryanna, Naykia and Dakota Massey; brother Frank (Fern), sisters, Doreen Massey and Kaye Dewar (Stewart) sisters-in-law, Dorothy Massey, Maud Massey, Bonnie Goertzen (Jake) and Joyce Bennet; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Bert was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin (Ben) in 1973 and Catherine (Kate) in 1958; brothers, Harold in 1992 and Jack in 1995, and nephew Darryl in 1958 and Leslie in 1985. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Selkirk United Church on McLean Ave. with Rev. Barb Janes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment & Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg. Remember him with a smile, He was not one for tears. Reflect instead on memories Of all the happy years. Recall to mind the way he spoke, And all the things he did. His strength, his stance, the way he walked, Remember this instead.
