HELEN RENNIE 1900 - 1999 Peacefully on November 1, 1999 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, Helen Jane Stewart Rennie (nee Brown) entered into the presence of her Lord. Born in Auchincairn, Scotland on March 28, 1900 she was raised and took her schooling in this Southern farming community and later graduated from Knox College in Edinburgh. In 1920 she came to Canada to marry Charles Rennie whom she met during the First World War. Charles predeceased her in 1961. She is survived by two sons, Bill (Connie) of Winnipeg and Ian (Lee) of Vancouver; eight grandchildren, Vivian of Victoria, Nancy of Vancouver, Ruth of Winnipeg, Mardythe of Paris, France, Catherine of North Bay, Scott of Vancouver, Bill Jr. of Winnipeg and Jillian of Vancouver; and nieces, Ruth Lang of Vancouver, Mildred Bauch of Moosehorn, Man., Ruth Shabaga of Kinistino, Sask. and nephew Colin Brown of Moosehorn, Man.; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Helens life revolved around her family and church community. She was a founding member of the early Big Sisters Association. She took a special interest in young people and especially her grandchildren, who will lovingly remember her for her selflessness, unconditional love and wise counsel throughout her life. A charter member of Bethesda Church, her memorial service will be held there on Saturday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m., located at Grant Avenue and Oxford St., with Rev. Wm. Ehlers officiating. Friends may call at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, for viewing Thursday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The family wish to thank all the staff of the Convalescent Home for their wonderful compassion, patience and care shown to our mother during the past six years. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Helens memory to either The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St. N., R3M 2N6; The Canadian Sunday School Mission, 200 - 189 Henderson Hwy., R2L 1L7; or Big Sisters and Big Brothers of Winnipeg, 402 - 177 Lombard Ave., R3B 0W5.
