THERESE MARIE SUTHERLAND (nee LAFORTUNE) Peacefully on Monday, November 1, 1999 at St. Boniface General Hospital, Therese Marie Sutherland passed away at the age of 79 years, following a long and courageous battle with cancer, her family at her side. She was predeceased in April of 1999 by her beloved husband of 45 years, Clifford Donald Sutherland. She is also predeceased by her parents, Georges A. and Eugenie Lafortune; brothers, Joseph, Marcien and Hubert, and sisters, Berthe and Cecile. She leaves to mourn her passing her brother Edouard, and sisters, Irene Clifford, Jeannette Cormier, Marguerite (and Georges) Petit, Yvonne Brodie, Ida (and Frank) Appelmans, Georgette (and George) Forbes, and Anita Balzer; in-laws, Fernande (Lafortune) Masse, Winnie Hosfield, Phyllis Sutherland, and Fred Pratt; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Therese was born in Woodridge, MB, and spent much of her early years in La Broquerie. She moved to Winnipeg where she worked in St. Boniface General Hospital Admitting and later for Dr. Joseph Graf pediatrician. Although she had no children of her own, her love of children was reflected by her care for her own family and others children while in the service of Dr. Graf. A caring housewife, she loved to receive guests and company, her door was always open and the stove usually cooking. Her love of music was demonstrated in her family sing alongs, and her playing of the harmonica and guitar. Therese also had a love of nature which while her health permitted, was noted in her passion for gardening and landscaping. In celebration of her life Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 1007 St. Marys Rd. in St. Vital with Rev. Fr. E.M. Toupin officiating and co-celebrant Rev. Fr. Leonce Aubin. Interment will ensue later in the afternoon in the family plot at Woodridge parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in Thereses memory to the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, 408 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6, or to a charity of their own choice. Special thanks to Dr. P. Montgomery, Dr. A.W. Alvi, Dr. F. Albi, and the caring staff of 4E and 6E of St. Boniface General Hospital.
