JACOB (JAKE) ANDREW PETERS It is with great sadness that the family of Jacob Andrew Peters announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, November 2, 1999. Jake was predeceased by his parents and four brothers. He leaves to mourn his wife, Annelies; son Franz; daughter Ingrid Stewart and son-in-law John Stewart and their children, Ruth, Carl, Katherine and Laura. Jacob was born August 3, 1907 in Gronau, Southern Russia and spent his early years in Schonwiese, now part of the Ukraine. He immigrated from Russia with his family in 1923. The family settled in Saskatchewan, farming in the vicinity first of Hanley, and then Waldheim. In 1942, the family left the farm and moved to Winnipeg. During the Second World War, Jacob was stationed at Kingston, Ont. for a short period, and a longer term in Red Deer, Alta. He later worked for Safeway, and during that time went to Success Business School at night and graduated from that program as an accountant. He then went to work at Monarch Machinery as an accountant, and then some years later worked as an accountant for Concordia Hospital and retired when the hospital moved to the new location. Following his retirement, he continued to keep active, working part time for Thor Foundry, travelling to Europe and Eastern Canada, and spent a lot of time tending his garden in the summer. In later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. A memorial service will take place on Monday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg. Jake will be missed by his family, friends, and acquaintances. He always had a good word to say, and a good deed to perform for others. He will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may gratefully be made to a charity of the donors choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
