Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLARENCE (CLARE) E. BROCK Clare quietly passed away in Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C. on October 31, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born at High Bluff, Manitoba, May 29, 1921, he attended Old High Bluff School No. 13, High Bluff Village and Portage Collegiate. Always active in sports, especially in hockey in Portage la Prairie and baseball with High Bluff in the 1930s. He played the violin and he and sister Hazel, often played for local dances. He served 1941-45 in The First Survey Regiment, R.C.A. in Africa, Italy to Northern Europe as a Corporal. Upon returning home, he attended Brandon University and became a Land Surveyor for Manitoba and Saskatchewan. At first, he was employed by the Manitoba Government, then Federal Government. In 1953, he began his own Survey Business adding mixed farming and dairy herd at Brandon, Mb. In 1966, he retired to Victoria, B.C. with wife Ruby (nee Scharf) and children, Maureen, David and Tracy. He sold Real Estate and various other part time positions there. Predeceased by his wife in 1994 and previously by his parents, Guy and Hazel Brock; brother Stanley; brothers-in-law, Ted Kay, Art Lewis and Garry Scharf. He leaves to mourn his three children besides two devoted sisters, V. Jane Kay and M. Hazel Lewis in Winnipeg and sister-in-law Gladys Brock and Rubys sister-in-law Doreen Scharf of Saskatoon, who will cherish his memory. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends who visited with him during his five weeks in hospital. We thank them for their caring as well as all the nurses and doctors, who gave Clare the will to continue his journey in life so long. Clare spent two weeks in Winnipeg and Brandon in September and while not well, he was so happy to make the flight to revisit his "roots", which he valued so greatly. A kind, well-respected, honest man full of compassion, he has left many embracing memories of times together, which will always remain with all who were fortunate enough to have shared his company. Interment to take place in Victoria. "As always, you did it with kindness and smiles No need for a whole lot of praise. As always, we hope you knew beyond doubt You were one of those wonderful people We will not be happy without."
