Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE FOERSTER September 28, 1910 November 5, 1999 Our beloved Dad, Opi and Greatgrandfather ("little Opi") died peacefully at West Park Manor, on November 5, 1999 at the age of 89 years. Dad was born in Lodz, Poland, the son of Wilhelm and Olga Foerster. In his teens he made a strong commitment to the teachings and the person of Jesus Christ, a decision that was to influence and fashion his entire life. These commitments were shared by his wife Berti, with whom Dad enjoyed an exemplary and loving relationship for 62 years. Miraculously, the family survived the ravages of war intact and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1950, where they established a new home and raised their three children, John, George and Anneliese. George was a Master Machine Builder (Maschinenbaumeister), but became much more that that: he was an avid reader and an ardent student of religion, a lay preacher and teacher, a choir director, an accomplished photographer and painter whose works grace many a home. Above all, he was a devoted father and grandfather, whose love, wisdom and prayerful support helped his children and grandchildren master the challenges of life. George was predeceased in death by his beloved Berti in 1996, his much loved son George in 1967 as well as his parents and his brother Lothar. He leaves his children John and Gisela Foerster, Anneliese and Charles Kumze, and Gladys Maringer; he will be missed greatly by grandchildren David (Juanita), Steven (Jackie) and Susan, Fred (Sandra) and Dennis (Kathy) Andrea (Werner), Christine and Robert (Jennifer), as well as seven adorable great grandchildren, Julie, Evan, Nicole, Corey, Emily, Kurtis and Ryan. George is also survived by his sister Waltraut and brother Wilhelm in Germany and many other relatives and friends in Germany and Canada, including his best friend Henk Douwes of Winnipeg. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Klassens Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. on Tuesday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at McDermot Avenue Baptist Church, 821 McDermot Ave., on Wednesday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens on George and Bertis 65th Wedding Anniversary. The Family would like to express sincere thanks to the Doctors and Nursing staff, as well as the Pastors, who cared for Dad so faithfully at St. Boniface Hospital, Deer Lodge and West Park Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, for the George and Berti Foerster Fund dedicated to Research on Aging, or to Meadowood Manor for the building of a Chapel. "In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." Romans 8:37. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
