DAVID JOHN HADDEN 1932 - 1999 Suddenly, on November 7, 1999, David passed away at Concordia Hospital at the age of 67. David will be lovingly remembered by Bertha, his wife of 41 years; his daughters, Yvonne (Franz), Shirley (Jim), Heather (Kelvin) and Ruth (Rob) and his grandchildren, Melissa, Andrew, Jessica, Sharon, Lindsey and Jennifer. He also leaves behind many close relatives in Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. David was born on May 19, 1932 in Carlow, Ireland. In his youth, he was a gifted athlete in bother track and field and rugby. On leaving school, he joined the Hadden family business, where he worked with his father and brother for more than 20 years. In 1972, he emigrated with his wife and daughters to Canada, where they settled in Winnipeg. He worked with the Hudsons Bay Company and then Coles Bookstore until 1977, when he fulfilled his dream of opening his own business, Haddens Bookstore. This gave him the opportunity to pursue two of his passions - books and music. He retired in 1996, and was fulfilling another dream, to research and write on historical subjects. He and his wife had recently returned from a wonderful five week holiday in Ireland. Special thanks to cardiologist, Dr. Hugh Smith, for his wonderful care over the past 8 years. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Albright Evangelical Church, 3400 DeVries Avenue. There will be no public viewing. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a memorial fund at Albright Evangelical Church. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
