JOHN SCROMEDA It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, John Scromeda on November 7, 1999. "Johnny" was born on September 13, 1935 to the late Mary and Harry Scromeda at the family farm in St. Andrews, Man. He attended St. Andrews School, however, following the untimely death of his father he stayed on the farm with his mother and helped her to keep things going. He was a dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather. In 1954 he attended Red River College where he also met his wife Mildred. They were married in 1956 and made their home on the family farm where they raised three sons and lived there till 1988. Johnny worked for the City of Winnipeg as a Licence Inspector with the Finance Department up until the time he took an early retirement. John and Mildred then moved to Selkirk. He then became a contractor for the Winnipeg Free Press and was instrumental in helping his boys get into the business. At the time of his passing John was the building supervisor at the Knights of Columbus Seniors Building in Selkirk. His life revolved around his family and there was nothing he would not do for them. Many happy times were spent at their condo at Winnipeg Beach and they had planned to retire there in May of 2000. Johnny is survived by his wife and soulmate of 43 years, Mildred; his three sons, Gordon (Delores), Gary (Debbie) and James (Vee) as well as his seven precious grandchildren that he adored, Shannon, Brendan, Ian, Evan, Alyssa, Chantal and Jeremy. He also leaves his sister Steffi (Charlie) brothers, Mickey (Ursula), Ed (Lenny) and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in the St. Clements Cemetery. His pallbearers will be Gordon, Gary, James, Mickey and Ed Scromeda and Danny Girard. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Johns name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. "Ive done my best and now I must Rest." Dad, We will miss you a lot and love you forever. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
