JOAN MARIAN SCHEIRICH (YORKIW) 1934 - 1999 It is with deep sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Joan Marian Scheirich on November 10, 1999 at the Riverview Health Centre with her family at her side. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Mary Yorkiw. She will be deeply missed by her husband and best friend of 41 years, Jake; her son Kurt, wife Irene and their two children, Laura and Philip of Orillia, ON; her son Neil, wife Susan and their two children, Daryk and Devon, of Winnipeg; and her brother Robert, wife Linda and their family of Winnipeg. Joan was born on October 4, 1934 in Winnipeg and graduated from Lord Selkirk High School. She worked at the City of Winnipeg Health Department for ten years, stayed home to raise her family and then returned to work at Manitoba Hydro, retiring December, 1975, after 20 years of service. Joan loved life and enjoyed many activities such as golfing, attending Blue Bomber football games, walking, especially along the lake at Gimli, playing cards with friends and most of all, cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She volunteered for services for the Alzheimer Society, canvassed for the Salvation Army, The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Cancer Society. She received her 25-year pin from the Canadian Red Cross Society for donating blood. Thanks to Drs. Kreepart, Heywood and Lotocki, nurse Irene, the staff of Health Sciences Centre WRS5, the VON nurses, Dr. Marr and the staff of Riverview 3E Wing for their compassionate care. The family greatly appreciates the prayers, visits and support of Joans many friends and relatives throughout her illness. At her request, cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Greg Mulligan, OFM, Cap. of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe and Brazier, on Monday, November 15 at 9:30 a.m. Service will terminate at the church. A private interment will take place at the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joans memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
