ADA TIERNEY HANNAH Ada Hannah, born Ada Tierney Greenaway on January 21, 1920 at Newdale, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 1999, following a silent, courageous battle with cancer. Ada remained at home until only a few hours before her passing. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie on Tuesday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the Oak River Cemetery, Oak River, Manitoba. Ada is predeceased by her father in 1965; her mother in 1980; sister Thelma Ledoux in 1996, and nephew Howard Fowler in 1995. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim of Portage la Prairie, formerly of Oak River and Rathwell, Manitoba; her older sister Mabel Klym of Newdale; her youngest sister Grace McCartney of Lakefield, Ontario; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, son Donald, wife Darlene (Clubb) of Abbotsford, British Columbia; grandson Ken (Jovanka) of Prince George, British Columbia; granddaughter Patricia (Jim Hutchinson) and great-grandchildren, Gregory and Karen of Kamloops, British Columbia; son Jim, wife Kathy (Burke) of Winnipeg; granddaughter Kathy (Keith Lloyd) and great-grandchildren, Jace, Riley and Campbell of MacGregor, Manitoba; granddaughter Bobbi (Jerry Evanochko) and great-grandchildren, Mikaile and Kaiden of Portage la Prairie; step-grandchildren, Sheree and children, Matthew and Jordan of Winnipeg; Wayne (Debbie) and children, Dylan, Dustin and Chad of Winnipeg, Manitoba; daughter Barb, husband Terry Bradley and children, Erin, David and Kalee of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Avenue E., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 0K8. In 1946 Ada and Jim returned to Manitoba after the war to farm near Oak River, Manitoba. They worked the farm together, raising their three children until they retired to Brandon in 1973. Ada worked for a short time in Brandon at the Hillcrest Nursing Home and then as custodian at the old Central United Church which was just next door to their home. In 1986 they made their final move together to Portage la Prairie to live near their daughter and grandchildren. Adas whole life revolved around her grandchildren, first Ken and Pat, then Kathy and Bobbi and most recently Erin, David and Kalee. She doted on their every need and desire. In Portage she was able to spend all her time with the three youngest and involved herself in all their daily activities. Ada was an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting and sewing until arthritis forced her to lay down her tools. Ada was a quiet reserved lady who never wanted to be a burden on anyone. She had an inner strength that only a loving mother could have and those around her came to rely on that quality, sometimes too much. Ada will be lovingly and sadly missed by all her family including many nieces, nephews, extended family members and her friends. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Avenue E., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 0K8. Mom you will be with us always. Thank you. The Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie in care of the arrangements.
