ELSIE ST. GODARD On November 12, 1999, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Elsie St. Godard passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Elsie is survived by her daughter Marguerite (husband Ron) Barker; grandchildren, Sharon (Carl) Collister, Marnie Barker, Mark (Theresa) Barker, Brian (Dana) Barker and nine great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Betty Hutton, Mrs. O. Baekeland and Mrs. H. Backeland and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie Backeland was born on July 17, 1907 and lived most of her life in Winnipeg. In 1927 she married Hector St. Godard who predeceased her in 1954 and whose memory she kept alive and cherished all the rest of her life. She was also predeceased by her sister Anna and brothers, Omer and Henry. For sixteen years Elsie lived with her daughter and family and was instrumental in helping to raise her four grandchildren. She later retired to her own apartment where she enjoyed a little travelling, played cards, sang (generally off-key) and lost at Bingo on a regular basis. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Foyer Valade Nursing Centre where Elsie spent her later years and to the many extended family members and friends who continued to visit and be part of her life to the very end. We will always treasure the many memories of her honesty, integrity, forthrightness and humour, but will mostly remember the great gift of her love. "Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come follow me, and I will give you rest." Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 17 at 11:00 am in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Private interment to follow.
